Dwellings
“Dwellings“ is a cold Wax and Oil piece I created after a trip to Morocco. Driving down through the Atlas Mountains to the desert was absolutely wonderful. The scenery is breathtaking, the dwellings the Amazigh (Berbers) live in, built into the mountain out of clay and stone really intrigued me. This is a rendering from a snapshot in my mind, the square format was chosen because it reminded me a little of a Polaroid picture, “a picture in my mind”. Travelling to Morocco is an awakening of the senses, the smells, the tastes, the sounds and the sights but above all what stayed with me the friendliness of the people.
Cold wax and Oil is basically a procedure of mixing cold wax with oil paint, making the paint creamy and luscious. It is applied in several coats, and can be scraped back and reapplied until the effect wanted is reached.
